DELAWARE – health officials are asking people in the Rehoboth Beach and Dewey beach area to get tested for the coronavirus, after an apparent spike in cases in the area.

To help people get tested, officials are hosting two free testing events in the beach area this week. The first event will be held on Monday from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Starboard restaurant in Dewey Beach. Pre-registration for that event is full, but there are a limited number of walk in spots available.

The second event will be held on Thursday, July 2d at the Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach. That event will be held from ten o’clock in the morning until 2 o’clock in the afternoon. You can pre register for that event here.

Officials say they will most likely schedule even more testing events in the area for the general public in the next week.

Beebe Healthcare is also hosting testing opportunities specifically for staff of any food establishment in the beach area in partnership with the Delaware Restaurant Association. Those events will be held on Monday from noon until 2 p.m. at Big Fish Grill in Rehoboth Beach, and on Tuesday, June 30 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Touch of Italy in Rehoboth Beach. No pre-registration for those events in necessary, but anyone with any questions can call 302-738-2545.
