Delaware State Police arrested a Lewes man on assault and other related charges Tuesday evening.

Troopers say they were called to the 19000 block of Beaver Dam Road at around 6:30 p.m. for a reported assault. On arrival, a 23-year-old female victim reported that she had been assaulted earlier in the day by her boyfriend, 31-year-old Anthony Diorio, after the two of them got into an argument. Diorio reportedly held the victim down, keeping her from leaving, before hitting her several times and cutting her with a knife.

The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault. Police say it was also learned that Diorio had a no contact order with the victim.

Diorio was taken into custody on scene and found to be in possession of 4.0 grams of marijuana at the time of his arrest. He was charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, second degree assault, aggravated menacing, unlawful imprisonment, breach of release, and possession of marijuana. He is currently being held at SCI on $31,001 cash only bond.
