Marie Jean Pierre was fired from her job as a dishwasher at a Miami hotel for not working on Sunday's despite the fact that she warned her employer that she could not work.
The faithful Christian woman says that she missed six Sundays from work to go to Church and was fired. Pierre argued that she told her employer when she was hired that she could not work Sundays because of her religious beliefs and should not have been scheduled to work on Sunday'S. A jury awarded Marie Jean Pierre $21 Million because they felt she was discriminated against based on her religion. Pierre can't receive the entire $21 million because there is a cap on punitive damage awards in federal court. But Marie's lawyer said he expects she will receive at least $500,000.
