The largest racquet sports complex on the Eastern Shore is now in Ocean Pines.

Ocean Pines officially cut the ribbons to open two new platform tennis courts. Ocean Pines now has six platform courts for its platform tennis association.

"It's way beyond excitement. We have been for these courts for 8 years now and the board finally approve them." Said player June Freeman.

The $93,800 project was approved by the Ocean Pines Board of Directors at a July 28 Regular Board meeting. Board Director Doug Parks moved to accept the recommendation of Total Platform Tennis, an Ohio-based platform tennis court construction company.

"It was a rather long process. We went through changes of people on the board but we were all committed to making this happen for the betterment of Ocean Pines," said Vice President of Ocean Pines Cheryl Jacobs.

The court will be open all year round. Ocean Pines community members will be given a 30-day free trial to learn to play the game.
