SALISBURY, Md.- The eastbound lanes of the US 50 Salisbury Bypass reopened Friday morning following emergency repairs.

On Tuesday, the eastbound part of the bypass at the Route 50 Business split was closed due to pavement damage and drainage erosion just prior to Business 13.

The Maryland State Highway Administration said the closure was necessary to ensure public safety when heavy rains last weekend accelerated erosion around a drain pipe, creating voids under both eastbound lanes.

The SHA said crews worked overnight and through rain since Tuesday to repair the roadway following the emergency closure.

Crews excavated more than 10 feet beneath the eastbound roadway just east of Northwood Drive to replace wet and loose fill material.

The area was patched with asphalt Thursday morning and drain pipe repairs were completed that night.
